OPLIN/Internet Access Policy

The goal of the Coshocton Public Library is to help you find information you need through all possible means, including the Internet and the World Wide Web. By signing the attached consent form, you agree to follow it in its entirety. Each user will maintain a valid library card or present a photo identification, which will be used for computer access.

First time users will receive a copy of the OPLIN/Internet Policy and Procedures.

The OPLIN computer may not be used for unauthorized, illegal or unethical purposes. You may not send, receive or display text or graphics which may reasonably be construed as obscene.

Respect the privacy of others by not misrepresenting yourself as another user; by not attempting to modify or gain access to files, passwords, or data belonging to others; by not seeking unauthorized access to any computer system, or damaging or altering software components of any network or database.

You may not alter files or modify the configurations of any PC or peripherals. Altering or modification is considered a violation of computer security and will result in the loss of computer privileges.

Do not turn off the computer or reboot the system. Ask Library Staff for assistance.

Users responsible for damage or destruction of the library’s equipment, software or data may be held liable by the library for the costs incurred in replacing the equipment software, and data, and in restoring the system to its former configuration.

Internet use in the Children’s Room will only be for patrons under the age of thirteen. Internet use in the Main Reading Room will only be for patrons 13 years and over.

You may find some content on the Internet to be objectionable or unsuitable. We strongly encourage all users, especially parents and children, to read Child Safety on the Information Highway. We believe that the information contained in this brochure is applicable for all users. This brochure is available at the library.

It is the library’s policy that parents or legal guardians must assume responsibility for deciding what library resources are appropriate for their children. Parents should let their children know if there are materials which they do not want them to use.

Not all sources on the Internet provide accurate, complete, or current information. Users should evaluate Internet sources just as they do printed publications, questioning the validity of the information provided.

Misuse of the Library’s OPLIN computer or Internet access will result in loss of OPLIN/Internet privileges.

The Library’s Internet computers may not be used for chat/chat rooms.

OPLIN/INTERNET ACCESS PROCEDURES

First time users will receive a copy of the OPLIN/Internet Access Policy and Procedures.

All adults (ages 13 and older) are required to sign the Statement of Responsibility card. Parents must be present to sign the Statement of Responsibility card for children twelve and younger.

You may use one half hour of OPLIN time per day. This may be by reservation or walk-in. All additional time must be confirmed at the Reference Desk or Children’s Desk.

Registration may be in person or by telephone.

Your time slot may be forfeited if you are more than ten minutes late.

Staff can suggest search strategies and answer specific questions, but the staff cannot provide one-on-one training in using the computers or accessing OPLIN and the Internet. Ask for a schedule of Library training sessions.

One OPLIN computer is reserved for serious research and is available upon request.
