Reports to: Director
Basic Function: Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the bookmobile. Oversees all bookmobile operations.
Subordinates: Bookmobile Drivers
Level: 108 or 110(MLIS)
Status: Non-exempt
Nature and Scope: This individual manages all aspects of the Bookmobile Department and is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the bookmobile.
Principal Duties:
Manages daily operations of the Bookmobile Department
Develops and manages the schedule of stops and drivers' schedules
Determines department needs (supplies, computer equipment, vehicle maintenance)
Understands the budgets assigned and makes appropriate decisions on expenditures
Assures bus is prepared for each day’s route
Supervises drivers
Participates in the hiring and training of drivers
Prepares monthly driving schedule
Assures library policies and procedures are followed
Monitors and evaluates staff performance
Ensures punctually
Maintains Bookmobile in a safe and working condition
Schedules routine maintenance
Evaluates vehicle for non-routine repairs
Maintains vehicle maintenance records
Provides direct service to Bookmobile patrons
Participates in community outreach events
Resolves patron account questions and complaints
Answers reference questions correctly and completely
Performs routine circulation duties
Has a positive and solution driven disposition for all visiting the bus
Shelves materials
Orders a variety of formats for the Bookmobile collection and discards materials as needed
Awareness of trends, including bestsellers and popular authors
Performs basic repair to materials
Understands CREW weeding guidelines
Evaluates the condition of materials in the collection and handles them accordingly
Establishes and maintains partnerships with schools, community organizations, and other stakeholders to expand library access throughout the county
Additional duties
Prepares reports including a monthly narrative and statistical report
Reports issues and concerns to the director
Participates in department head meetings
Attends trainings and workshops approved by the director
Additional duties appropriate to the classification may be assigned as necessary
Acceptable Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Knowledge and experience with delivery of bookmobile and outreach services
Knowledge of routine vehicle maintenance
Highly organized
Ability to:

Communicate effectively, both orally and written

Work in a fast-paced environment
Deal tactfully and courteously with the public; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public as well as co-workers
Experience with computers and other common office equipment
Extensive knowledge of established library policies and procedures, as well as the ability to anticipate needed changes due to changing technologies and patron needs.
Physical agility and strength to bend, reach, lift, and carry 40 pounds
Work in close quarters with other staff members and the public
Maintains a neat appearance appropriate for work on the Bookmobile
Education/Certification/Demonstrated Skill Requirements:
Valid Ohio Driver’s license and a clean drivers abstract
Four-year degree from an accredited college or university required; Master’s in Library and Information Science degree preferred
Any combination of experience and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
