Basic Function: Drives the bookmobile and performs routine circulation tasks. 
Subordinates: None
Level: 106
Status: Non-exempt

Nature and Scope: This individual is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the bookmobile. Assists in circulating materials to bookmobile patrons and in providing a friendly atmosphere to all ages. 

Principal Duties:  

  • Primary driver to all stops

  • Performs basic maintenance of the Bookmobile

  • Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections

  • Reports mechanical and safety concerns immediately 

  • Cleans the Bookmobile inside and out

  • Provides direct service to Bookmobile patrons

    • Participates in community outreach events

    • Resolves patron account questions and complaints

    • Answers reference questions correctly and completely

    • Performs routine circulation duties

    • Has a positive and solution driven disposition for all visiting the bus

    • Shelves materials

  • Additional duties appropriate to the classification may be assigned as necessary

Acceptable Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of routine vehicle maintenance

  • Knowledge of city and county roadways

  • Ability to:

    • Work with limited supervision

    • Communicate effectively, both orally and written

    • Adapt to change

    • Work in a fast-paced environment

    • Deal tactfully and courteously with the public; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public as well as co-workers

  • Experience with computers and other common office equipment

  • Knowledge of established library policies and procedures

  • Physical agility and strength to bend, reach, lift, and carry 50 pounds

  • Work in close quarters with other staff members and the public

  • Maintains a neat appearance appropriate for work on the Bookmobile

  • Punctual

Education/Certification/Demonstrated Skill Requirements:

  • Valid Ohio Driver’s license and a clean drivers abstract

  • High school diploma or GED 

  • Experience driving large vehicles, CDL preferred  

  • Any combination of experience and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
