Reports to: Conveyance Aide Supervisor 
Basic Function: Responsible for placing and routing all library items efficiently and correctly. 
Subordinates:  None
Level: 103
Status: Non-exempt

Nature and Scope: This individual is responsible for placing all library materials in the designated correct locations and handles incoming and outgoing cargo, including transporting materials in a personal vehicle between the Main Library and West Lafayette Branch.

Principal Duties: 

  • Sorts and shelves library materials 

  • Reads the shelves to ensure materials are in correct order

  • Straightens shelves

  • Re-shelves and straightens improperly shelved books

  • Unpacks, packs, and sorts loaned materials

  • Prepares items for shipping by wrapping, boxing, banding, etc. to insure items are packed securely

  • Determines the proper shipping destination for all outgoing items

  • Performs basic circulation duties

    • Checks items in

    • Checks items out to designated accounts

  • Delivers library materials using personal vehicle between the library locations in Coshocton and West Lafayette

  • Completes form for government rate gas mileage reimbursement

  • Operates the infestation oven and cleans materials

  • Keeps public areas of the library in orderly condition by straightening tables and chairs, throwing away trash, and putting materials left on tables and shelves away

  • Runs errands throughout the library

  • Empties the outside drop boxes at assigned times

  • Locks the library according to a proscribed procedure at closing

  • Puts out special display books for holidays and other special occasions

  • Additional duties appropriate to the classification may be assigned as necessary

Acceptable Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of established library policies and procedures

  • Ability to quickly and correctly place items in correct alphabetical and numerical order

  • Maintains tactful and courteous relations with the public

  • Experience with computers and other common office equipment

  • Ability to work with great efficiency and accuracy

  • Keeps workspace neat and orderly for a shared environment

  • Maintains a neat appearance appropriate for working with the public

  • Communicates and works with other library staff effectively

  • Physical agility and strength to bend, reach, lift, and carry 40 pounds

Education/Certification/Demonstrated Skill Requirements:

  • Valid Ohio Driver’s license

  • Proof of automobile liability insurance

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Any combination of experience and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
